The 5 best cheap cigars with Jamie Johnston

Many seem to think that cigars is all about who can afford the most expensive ones as these are always better than cheaper sticks. Still, this is rather far from the truth as there are many great choices on the cheaper side. It is important to remember that the experience of a good smoke is highly personal, hence a good rule of thumb is to always use and trust your senses to rate a cigar instead of thinking about the cost of the stick.

These are the 5 best cheap cigars according to experienced cigar enthusiast Jamie “Jayjcigars” Johnston. The cigars are not arranged in any particular order as they are all rather equally great in different ways. Let’s get to it.

the 5 best budget cigars

  • Quintero Favoritos – $93 for a box of 25 from iHavanas. 50 ring gauge x 115mm,  Fantastic construction for a short filler cigar,  medium strength and wonderful flavour. A nice thick ring gauge on this well made machine rolled Cuban.  A great all day smoke!

Cheap but good cigar

“Personally I don’t think price has a whole lot to do with quality and taste of a cigar. Of course, construction is usually slightly better on more expensive cigars and limitadas etc. But for every day smokes at affordable prices, you cannot go wrong with these 5 best cheap cigars! Often you can find boxes with a couple of years age on them and then the experience is really something extra. The flavours on these cigars, to me at least, are as rich and enjoyable as some of the more expensive cigars out there. Have fun with it!”

Mitkä parranhoitotuotteet sopivat minulle? Partaöljy, partabalsami, vahat, shampoot?

Kuten viime viikon postauksessa lupasimme, tässä seuraavassa postauksessa käymme hieman tarkemmin läpi erilaisia parranhoitotuotteita. Mennään siis asiaan!

Partaöljy

Partaöljy on varmaankin yksi ensimmäisistä parranhoitotuotteista johon törmäät.

Viiksivaha on käytännössä pelkästään muotoilutuote.

Alla voit lukea kahden parrakkaan kaverin kokemuksia parranhoidosta:

Jesse Teräsahde

– Parranhoito on jokapäiväinen rutiinini.

Fredrik Aronsson

– Aloitin parran kasvatuksen noin kolme vuotta sitten.

Erinomainen parranhoitotuote aloittelijoille

  • Partabalsami: Erinomainen tuote isommille parroille kosteuttavien ja tukea antavien ominaisuuksiensa ansiosta

  • Partavaha: Sopii isoille parroille, joille muut tuotteet eivät tuo tarpeeksi tukea ja joiden muotoilu on tärkeää

  • Viiksivaha: Sopii kelle tahansa, joita ärsyttää suuhun menevät partakarvat tai jotka haluavat muotoilla viiksensä tyylikkäästi

  • Partashampoo: Partashampoissa ei ole paljon kemikaaleja eli jos iho parran alla on kuiva eivätkä muut partatuotteet tunnu riittäviltä, partashampoo on oikea valinta

Seuraavassa postauksessa kerromme erilaisista parranhoitotuotteista hieman tarkemmin ja julkaisemme myös kahden parrakkaan kaverin haastattelut, nähdään ensi viikolla!

Beard Oil Vs. Beard Balm – Beard Care products explained

At sisuman.com we have just released our new Beard Balm. After this, we received a bunch of interesting questions that we would like to address in this blog post.

So there is Beard Oil, Beard Balm, Beard Wax, Moustache Wax,  Shampoos, different combs & brushes and so on, so we know this can be a bit tricky sometimes. Even though you don’t need every single product there is for your beard, almost all of them have some good characteristics and features to offer. In this post we’ll explain Beard Balm, Oil & Wax and make sure you have all the necessary information to choose the best suiting products for you.

Beard Oil

Probably one of the first things you will hear about when speaking about beards and everything that comes with it. Beard oil is simply an oil mixture that moisturizes your beard and also the skin underneath. Oil is the number one weapon to fight dry skin, flaking and itchy beard with. It softens up the beard and make it a bit easier to manage. Even though there is no hold in the product it will make your beard easier to manage. Also it just makes your beard look so much better and healthier!

Oil is usually applied after a shower when the pores are open. Apply to towel-dried or blowdried beard. Make sure to really rub the oil into your skin and moustache area. For more instructions go here.

Beard Oil can consist of a bunch of different carrier oils and essential oils to promote different features and scents. Our oil for example is made of natural ingredients that form a bit thicker blend that will stay in your beard all day even in temperatures far below 0 degrees celsius, this without feeling heavy when applied in the beard. Our scent is not too strong so it fits most men, the scent consists of Neroli and Eucalyptus.

Beard Balm

So what is really a Beard Balm then? Well The difference between oil vs. beard balm is first of all the fact that the balm is not liquid. It sits nicely in a can from where you scrape up an amount of balm with your thumbnail and then rub it between your hands until it melts. Then apply from the neck and up and style both beard and moustache with it. If you are only using balm you should also make sure that you are rubbing it into the skin.

Beard Balm have same features as beard oil but also usually consists of Beeswax and Butters (shea butter and cocoa butter), at least our balm do. These ingredients makes it work wonders for styling and holding your beard throughout the day. At the same time there is a bit less oils in a balm so even though it moisturizes and softens up your beard it is not as effective as beard oil in that area. Usually it’s enough though and we have to say that our new beard care favorite is in fact the actually the Balm!

So a great balm should be enough on its own. It should be easy to get from the can with your nail, melt nicely after a few seconds of intense rubbing between your hands (to get it heated up) and then be nice and easy to apply into your beard. It should moisturize your skin, soften up your beard and keep it in place while looking on point all day. A nice scent that fits you is of course also an important part. A Balm is a better fit than to only use oil for people with bigger beards. This is because then you usually need a product with better hold to get the preferred style and look.

Beard Wax

Quite often we hear that people are mistaking Beard Wax and Moustache wax to be the same product. They are not, even though they have the same mission really. Beard Wax is a bit lighter and easier to apply than Moustache Wax since you should be able to get this around in your beard fairly easily. It’s a bit like a balm but does not contain any oils that take care of your skin and softens up your beard properly. Instead it’s more of a styling product for bigger beards where oils and balms are simply not enough. Beard Wax usually feels heavier in the beard than a balm because the ingredients used are made to promote hold mainly. Usually Beeswax and Lanolin are used in these. A good beard oil would be recommended when using beard wax to prevent dry skin & beard and itching.

Moustache Wax

At last we have Moustache wax, or mustache wax, however you prefer. This usually comes in a small 10-20g tin since you do not use much at all at a time. Moustache wax is more of a straight up styling product than a caring product. The hold is one of the most important factors when speaking of moustache wax. Our wax is a bit stiffer than many other products because we feel this works best for most users. It works great for both keeping stubborn hairs out of your mouth and to get a good natural shape as it does for making a classic and timeless handlebar moustache. Moustache wax can contain scent or not depending on your own preference. Our wax have a subtle scent of Neroli and Eucalyptus to match nicely with our other beard care products. If you are thinking about how to apply moustache wax, go and take a look here.

Short and concise explanation:

Beard Oil – Fits most users and is a great complement for any other product because of its moisturizing nature. Perfect to start with.

Beard BalmExcellent choice for an all-round product for bigger beards with both great hold and moisturizing effects.

Beard Wax – Fits big beards where the other products are simply not enough and where styling is the main goal.

Moustache Wax – Great complement for everyone with stubborn hairs that gets close to the mouth or simply for well-styled whiskers

Do you have potential to reach your life goals?

Sisuman Ambassador and MMA Fighter Glenn “Teddy Bear” Sparv just came off another win in the Australian Fighting Championship (AFC). The bout in China against veteran Yuki Sasaki went down as an first round TKO for Sparv. Congrats on another Win, Glenn!

In today’s Blog Post The man himself talks a bit about potential. Do you have the potential to do the things you want in life? To reach your life goals? Let’s see what Glenn thinks about the matter:

– I’m genuinely a nice guy and I don´t like people wasting their potential, so I’m gonna set some stuff straight here. I’m not putting this here and expecting everyone to be a professional athlete or something, this adapts to everyone. I just want you to take a minute and think about what is your true potential. Can you do something to improve your life situation? Are you happy? Could you do more in life? What is really your full potential?

“We can´t all be Usain Bolts or Mark Zuckerbergs but we can all be great in our own personal way”

Sometimes you get to hear this sentence: “Everyone is created equal and we all have the same chance to succeed in life”. I call this Bullshit! We were not all born with the same opportunities here in life, we do not all have the freedom to do whatever the fuck we would like to do. Every person has a unique set of strengths which he or she can use to reach personal success in life.  Every person also has their own unique set of challenges that inhibit them in achieving such success and providing a daily struggle to live life. But if you are reading this you were probably not born with that many challenges that keeps you from living and reaching your full potential.

Why do I believe that? Because you are probably connected to some wireless network and sitting at Starbucks sipping your frappuccino while using your Iphone to read this. Think about that kid sitting in a refugee camp somewhere or that kid starving in his village in Africa. He might never have the opportunity to even try to follow his dreams. For him surviving another day might feel like a success. I’m definitely not saying these people can’t reach success, they are just born with many more challenges that can stop them. They come in to this world with the odds already against them and sadly most of them will not be able to go a day without have to struggle to survive.

For you who are able to read this, you were probably born with better odds, exactly like me. You might not be born perfect, but that don´t mean that you were born without a unique set of skills, so find them and use them. You have a lot less convincing excuses to use.

Your excuse is invalid.

Excuses.

Some people are trying to find excuses and trying to create challenges that don´t even exist, trying to find reasons why they shouldn’t be using their talent or strength and why they shouldn’t pursuit their passion. There is no valid excuse not to be the best you can be.

Fear

You are scared. Not only scared of failing but scared of what you might become, how your life will change if you actually reach your potential. Fear because it´s gonna be tough, it will drive you financially and mentally to the bottom.

Let’s get it out of the way right now. You will probably hit rock bottom a couple of times, fail a couple of times. No one gets it right the first time. Failure is how we learn, adapt, and toughen up so we can get to the point where we can succeed. Don’t be scared to fail. Get over it and move forward. In our world, failure is everywhere, but fortunately, it’s also what keeps us all going. We are all gonna go through tough times, we can’t avoid it, it’s part of life.

What you need

Surround yourself with good people and people that believe in you. They will support you in good times and bad times. If you can´t find these people at the low point in your life or after a failure, you need to get rid of them, you need to send them to the island called “Go Fuck Yourself”. I have most of my time had good people around me, they believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. They pushed me to keep going when I wanted to quit. But I also had to get rid of some people.

If I could have seen everything or if someone informed me of all the struggle, all the failing, all the bullshit I was gonna go trough already until this point in my MMA career, what if I knew all that before I started? It wouldn’t change a god damn thing. I would do it all over again, call me stupid and I’ll probably agree but at least I did it my way and I tried to live up to my full pontential.

Don´t wait for tomorow, because tomorrow might never come. Go out there, embrace the struggle, use your talent and live up to your full potential. Be a SISUMAN and reach your life goals!

Now I am going to drink my Celebration-Frappuccino and then back to work. Hard, hard work!

Smoking Cigars; An introduction by Joe “CigarNovice” Berg

On today’s blog post we will be guided through the world of Cigars by Joe “CigarNovice” Berg, a perfect cigar smoking guide for beginners.

Joe Berg is a 28-year-old Cigar enthusiast and Entrepreneur based in London, UK. A modern gentleman that prefers to hit the gym, work on his motorcycles or enjoy a whisky and a good cigar on his spare time. Joe is called “CigarNovice” on Instagram, this is also where he shares his cigar moments with the rest of the world. He is also a member of Soho Whisky Club in London. So if Cigars and Whisky interest you, make sure to follow the “CigarNovice” on Instagram.

But now it’s time to dive into the world of cigars with our new cigar expert, Joe Berg!

Getting started with cigars

The cigar world can be a bit daunting, with so many different types, prices, etiquette and accessories so here is a quick and simple guide to getting started:

  • Find your smoke

There are all sorts of cigars available from a range of countries, and each brand has their own flavor profiles. The best thing to do is start by trying a few and see which suits you in terms of flavor and price. Cuban cigars have a prestige to them as the most established cigar industry so tend to command a higher price, but there are plenty of new age cigars worth trying too. Don’t be afraid to try all sorts of different types and see what you like. I’d suggest starting with milder blends and sample various brands and blends to see what you like. Cigar merchants often sell starter or taster packs with a mix of cigars in. These are a really good way of starting out.

  • Cutting your cigar

I would always recommend using a cigar cutter to cut the cap of the cigar off. If you look closely at the top of your cigar, you’ll see a small line around the circumference of the cigar. This shows where the wrapper has been pressed into place to secure it. You want to cut the tip off the cigar above this line with a sharp cutter. Cutting below this line (or biting the end off like they do in the movies) means that the wrapper around the cigar is likely to unravel, and your cigar can fall apart.

  • Lighting your cigar

This is where your Sisuman cigar lighter comes in. It uses a butane gas and soft flame so it doesn’t affect the flavour of your cigar. In other words, perfect for the job. Let the flame just meet the foot of the cigar and rotate the cigar around so that it lights it evenly. Give your cigars a couple of puffs to check it is lit properly. Try not to scorch your cigar (the soft flame really helps here), and treat it gently. It takes time to hand roll a cigar so take your time to light it up and enjoy it too. You can use fancy jet flame lighters too, but you have to be careful not to barbecue your stick. Never use a normal petrol lighter you’d use on cigarettes. The petrol flavour taints the cigar and all you’ll taste is gasoline.

  • Smoking your cigar

Don’t inhale like you would a cigarette. Cigars are about the flavours, so simply hold the smoke in your mouth to get the taste. Try not to rush your cigar. If you smoke it too quickly it is likely to get hot, making it unpleasant to smoke and damage the delicate flavours. In terms of pace, I’d recommend a puff every minute or so as a general guide. If the cigar goes out, simply relight it in the same method, and smoke it a bit faster. You’ll find your rhythm. You can tap the ash of the cigar, but it will usually fall off when it’s ready. The ash helps stop the cigar getting too hot when smoking, try to avoid knocking it off too often.

  • Storing your cigars

To keep your cigars in good condition you want to keep them at the correct humidity. There are lots of fancy humidors out there, but to be honest a simple air-tight tupperware lunch box works well, with something to maintain the correct humidity level. My recommendation is a Boveda pack. Simply place these sachets in your humidor/box and these regulate the humidity. I’d use one pack per 25 cigars. For cuban cigars you’re best off using 65% humidity and new age cigars about 72% humidity (Boveda sell a range of sachets at different humidity levels). These packs are great, as they provide great accuracy, with zero maintenance. The only other thing is to try to keep your cigars at a constant temperature (between 15-20 degrees). As well as out of direct sunlight.

Picture of a Boveda Pack:

Some Cigar terms to help you along your way:

Ring Gauge – The thickness of the cigar

Vitola – A combination of the length, ring gauge and shape of the cigar. The most common are Robusto, Corona and Torpedo

Foot – The bottom of the cigar, this is the end you light

Cap – The top of the cigar, this is the end you cut and put in your mouth

Band – The paper wrapped around the cigar towards the Cap, which usually has the brand of the cigar on it. Take this off once your cigar is burning close to it (the heat will help melt the glue making it easier to remove) so it doesn’t catch on fire.

Do you really have to use Beard Oil and Mustache Wax?

dsc_3756redi

If you are an Experienced Beard Bearer you might have read articles like this before. But we know that there are a lot of questions out there and that’s why we’ll try to answer a few of these in this blog post!

So, beard care. Do you really need it?

Of course not. The sun will rise in the morning even if you would never use it, as Obama would have said.

No but really, Beard Care products as Beard Oil and Mustache Wax have a few proper advantages.  Especially now when it’s cold like in a polar bear´s arse.

There are also other beard care products that could work almost as an substitute, But in this article we’ll discuss the most basic products that we think works for everybody.

To get started we want to ask you that grow your beard a few questions.  Do you think it grows perfectly straight and exactly how you want it? Without itching? Does it look fantastic also straight from getting out of bed? No it doesn’t usually, at least not for us.

But don’t you worry, this is exactly why there is a thing called Beard Oil. Beard oil moisturizes your beard and skin underneath and makes it a lot more easy to manage. This makes it possible for you to grow a bigger, better looking beard. When it’s cold, like now, this is even more important. Your skin become dry fast when it’s cold and this makes Beard Oil more relevant during winter.

Most Beard Oils also prevents inflammation and nourish the skin while also giving your beard a nice scent.

You might have experienced your beard “snowing” at some point. In other words dandruff. Dead skin cells from your skin underneath your beard snowing down on your black T-shirt. Yes this is disgusting and very unpleasant (read itchy AF), but very very common. A good beard oil will make this a thing of the past.

Beard Oil is good for many things and can be quite important if you want to grow a thick and big beard. But it will also help smaller beards with the same things. Things like itching, dry skin and dry and spiky beard. Try it for yourself and you will quickly notice the difference.

Mustache Wax then?

Mustache wax has some of the same advantages as Beard oil. It moisturizes and nourish the skin and beard but usually you want to use this product to get the look right. You’ve seen some cool “Handlebar” Mustaches somewhere right? Yes, thats Mustache Wax.

mo

So mustache wax is used mostly to manage your mustache and to “learn” the hairs to grow as you want them to. You can use mustache wax both with smaller natural looking staches just the get the look exactly right, but also in bigger mustaches where it can be a must to get food into your mouth and not just hairs. Or to get a classy and timeless handlebar look (show us by tagging #sisuman on IG)

Many waxes contain Lanolin, and this is very effective for dry skin while also preventing rashes. Lanolin is also one of the main ingredient in most lip balms and this makes mustaches waxes also good for that at the same time.

But how do you use these products then? We have the perfect place for you that have thoughts about this. Visit here for videos, instructions and hints.

Fight Week Emotions with Sisuman and MMA Fighter Glenn “Teddy Bear” Sparv

I had a fight a couple of weeks ago, even if I was not supposed to. After a tough loss earlier this year I retired, said I never gonna do it again, not because of the loss but because of the pre fight anxiety, all the emotions leading up to the fight was just getting to much to deal with for to little reward. A lot of people see the fights, but they have no idea about what´s going on behind it. The training camp physically is easy, the fight is physically easy, because the kind of pain and suffering is the kind that goes away pretty fast. It´s the mental part that is hard, getting the mindset right and dealing with the negative demons in your head. This time I just wanted to face that anxiety and accept it. I´m just gonna give you a day-by-day description how it looks like, for me.

My Fight week:

Monday to Wednesday , most of the hard training is done and by this time I´m just doing light training and keeping the body moving and trying to visualize the fight. Normally I got a bunch a weight to cut but this time I moved up one weight category so one less thing to worry about. These days always feels pretty good and I just looking forward to the fight. During these days people always comes up to me and ask “You feeling ready?” “No, but a little bit too late to do anything about it now, ain´t it” Never ask a fighter if he feels ready.

Thursday is departure day, taking off to Kunming, China. This is a pretty sweet day, finally get to leave home, leave all the built up stress behind me and just check in to a fancy hotel and enjoy a little bit. This is also the day where I´m starting to see some light in the end of the tunnel.

Friday I meet up with my corner man Jeff who I had flown in from Taiwan. I want him there for 2 reasons, He speaks Chinese and he don´t asks me stupid questions and keeps his mouth shut when I´m having my possible breakdowns. We just get a light workout in to get the body moving after the travels and sweat out the last kilos before the weigh ins. At this point everything still feels good.

Saturday is weigh in day

This is always a good feeling, even if it wasn´t a big weight cut for me, I still had to diet for 8 weeks, no water for 30 hours and nothing to eat for 24 hours. So it´s a relief that this part of the fight is over. Back to the hotel room and re-hydrate and get some food in the system. Couple of hours later it´s time to look your opponent in the eyes, it´s face of time!

15241805_1803041933288911_7911022430208780170_n

Some people try to look for some weakness or some mental instability in their opponent, I just wanna size him up, give him a respectful handshake and walk away and not see him until the fight.

Back to the hotel and more food and now it´s just a waiting game. It´s probably the longest 24 hours that exists. This is also the time doubt starts setting in.

Saturday, FIGHT DAY. The waiting game continues, just in my hotel bed all day trying to get my head straight, trying to visualize a positive outcome. 3 o´clock and the hotel phone goes off. Time to head of to the venue, no the shit starts hitting the fan, I´m seriously hoping for the car to crash in to the wall so I can get out of this misery, unfortunately it makes it to the venue.

15232248_1213136665392387_1109872970242616922_n

It is still 7 hours before my fight, I go into the cage to get a feel for it, feeling the carpet, feeling the fence and going from corner to corner trying to visualize and take something positive back in to the locker room, normally I don´t set my foot in the cage before my fight, because it scares me but this time I wanted to get rid of that feeling, face the fear before the fight.

15181360_1208841292488591_2231930335749339145_n-1

Time is passing by slowly now. The event starts but since I´m the main event and the last fight, the waiting continues. The blue corner shares one locker room backstage, the prelim fighters comes back from their fights, some celebrating, some banged up and disappointed, I just wish my fight was over and I could feel what they are, the relief, the adrenaline dump.  I still have this feeling inside me that I can get out of this, I just do a no show and make a run out of this place, even if I probably never would do that, the idea of doing it pops up in my head before every fight.

15284837_1803034683289636_1569164279904036860_n

Two hours left. Hands getting wrapped, this is when it gets real, when it hits me that it´s to late to back out now.

One hour left. Starting to warm up and for the first time ever, it feels good. For the first time ever I´m enjoying it.

10 minutes left. They call my name. Time to walk the walk, time to fight.

15232294_1213142572058463_1216133721644523445_n

Not much going on in my head at this time, it´s just to late to start thinking or analyzing anything, so I just go with “Killed or be killed, here we go”

15267573_1213142592058461_6091581336190494255_n

Last reality check.

Let’s Go

15170825_1213149622057758_3718871245477372464_n

So I won it by TKO in round 2. But the biggest win for me was getting over the mental hurdles, facing my demons and actually enjoying fighting again. 2016 was a bad year for me, but I managed to finish it of pretty decent, but still a bad year. I´m not saying 2017 is gonna be my year but I’m sure as hell make it better than 2016.

Bottom point. Face your fears, be a SISUMAN!

In todays blog post we will follow Jimmy a day in his Life and with the Bearded Villains, to see what all the fuss is about!

But first, what is the Bearded Villains?

The Bearded Villains was originally Established in 2014 in Los Angeles California U.S.  with the purpose of showcasing the bearded men with character from your next door neighbor to the supermodel on GQ mag.  Now the brotherhood has grown WORLDWIDE and organically took shape of its own.

” To Unite Bearded Men of all cultures, races, creed and sexuality in a Brotherhood devoted to Loyalty, Honor and Respect toward all people, Dedicated to the betterment of mankind through fraternity Charity and Kindness “

So in short: A International Beard Club dedicated to
The Beard • Charity • Family • Respect • Loyalty •

We asked Jimmy why The Bearded Villains is important to him

“The Bearded Villains is for me a chance to do small things to make the world a better place. Also you will get friends for life and a bigger family through this, you’ll meet people you wouldn’t have met without it. And I don’t dislike having a beard either ;)”

SISUMAN Stories

We have encountered a lot of Men with SISU already at this point so we created a blog to write some stories about these highly interesting Men down. So let’s jump right to the action!

The Finnish word “Sisu” means something like Grit, guts and strength. It’s about taking action against the odds. Men that constantly work towards their goals despite repeated failures have Sisu. Sisu is determination and a really, really good attribute to have .

Speaking of that, let us present our first Ambassador here.

Jesse Teräsahde

img-20161101-wa0008

What he does: Skate, grow beard, work with construction, spend time with his family and occasionally enjoy a beer or two.

Not that long ago Jesse thought about how much skating really ment to him and came up with a nice little charity act to bring some extra joy into some rough times. He came up with the idea to donate a special Skate board and some other stuff to a little man that have had more adversity in his life already than many of us will ever experience. Olli.

So Jesse came up with a board and took the skilled Putka Tattoo’s Rikutorso to help him make it one of a kind and totally awesome, so awesome that he had to give Olli another board too to actually use 🙂

img-20161101-wa0003

Jesse scheduled a date and took his friend Hannu Luukkonen with him to drive him there. Olli and Jesse had scheduled a skate session! The pictures are better suited to explain the rest, even shitty weather and a bit of flu couldn’t touch this moment.

img-20161101-wa0006

img-20161101-wa0005

img-20161101-wa0001

Some say that Sisu is hard to spot, but we wouldn’t say so. These both guys have some serious amount of it, that’s for sure.

We wish Olli a lot of joy on the board, show us some tricks soon!

img-20161104-wa0004

If you want to follow Jesse more, make sure to follow him at Instagram under the name “xobeythebeardx”. This guy make some quality posts!

img-20161122-wa0016

Once we asked what he really thought about our products, he replied with this:

We guess that sums it up pretty good!

Have an awesome evening ppl!
