Epic La Rubia Cigar Review

Epic La Rubia Cigar Review

This time we’re reviewing the Epic La Rubia, a cigar we both reached for on different occasions but ended up agreeing on quite a lot. We’re not critics, just regular cigar enjoyers who like to share what we think. Taste is personal, so take this as two honest experiences from the field rather than expert ratings.

“La Rubia” translates to the blonde, and that already gives a hint about the character of this cigar: Soft, creamy and easy going, yet with enough flavor to keep things interesting.

Cigar overview

Name: Epic La Rubia Short Gordo
Origin: Dominican Republic
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut
Binder: Mexican San Andrés
Filler: Nicaragua & Dominican Republic
Strength: Mild to medium
Price: Around 11–12 € in Europe

Construction and draw

We both had very solid experiences with construction. The wrapper looked smooth and golden brown with a nice sheen, and the draw was excellent right from the first puff. The burn line stayed even almost the entire way through, even when Axel smoked his outside in windy Lanzarote weather, which says a lot. Ash held on well and smoke output was surprisingly big for such a mild cigar. Overall, great performance.

Flavor

This cigar starts off creamy with touches of light cedar, hay and a soft sweetness. As it warms up, roasted nuts and a bit of vanilla show up, giving it a round and slightly richer middle. Alex noted faint pepper, nut and leather tones that stay consistent from start to finish, while Axel found a smooth transition into more woodsy and nutty notes towards the end.

What stands out is the lack of harshness, it keeps its composure all the way to the nub, which is quite rare for a Connecticut-wrapped cigar at this price point.

Pairing

We both went for everyday pairings that worked really well. Alex started with a coffee and later switched to a Coca-Cola, while Axel enjoyed his with a few local Spanish lagers under the sun. It seems to pair best with light drinks that don’t overpower its delicate flavor, so coffee, light beer or a sweet rum will all do nicely.

Who will enjoy this

The Epic La Rubia fits anyone looking for a smooth and relaxed smoke, something mild but not boring. It’s easy to recommend for beginners who want to explore Dominican blends, and also for seasoned smokers who enjoy a creamy, nutty profile without too much strength. A perfect choice for mid-day breaks or as a calm start to your cigar evening.
