Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchill, Cigar Review

Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchill, Cigar Review

Time for another honest cigar review, and this time we are back to a true classic, the Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchill. This cigar is quite the go-to for Axel, and for good reason. This particular review is based on Axel’s smoke in Havana, and it was one of those sessions where the cigar got the perfect conditions, calm surroundings, proper lighting and plenty of time to settle, which really let the Wide Churchill show why it is so loved.

Construction and draw

Construction was excellent. The wide ring gauge helps it burn cool and slow, and this sample performed exactly like you want it to. Draw was effortless but still controlled, burn stayed straight, ash held firm and smoke output was dense and aromatic. When a Wide Churchill is properly lit and allowed to stabilise, it can feel almost effortless to smoke, this was a textbook example of that.

Flavor

Flavor wise, it opens smooth and aromatic, creamy cedar and soft wood right away, with light floral notes in the background that feel very Romeo y Julieta, plus a gentle honey like sweetness. In the middle third, roasted nuts and cocoa come in as the cigar settles, with mild coffee adding depth while the creamy core stays intact. The final third deepens slightly with hints of leather, gentle earth and restrained spice, but it stays elegant and composed, finishing smooth and clean without turning harsh.

Pairing

This cigar was enjoyed with aged rum over ice, with a gin and tonic on the side, both pairing exceptionally well with the Wide Churchill’s creamy and floral profile. Axel also lit it using the traditional Havana method, gently warmed, evenly ignited, wafted and allowed to stabilise before the first draw, which made a noticeable difference in how clean the opening felt.

Who will enjoy this

If you enjoy classic Cuban character with a smooth, aromatic profile, creamy cedar, cocoa and floral elegance, the Wide Churchill is an easy recommendation. It rewards patience and proper handling, and it is the kind of cigar that feels even better when you have time and calm surroundings for a long, slow session.
